From Orlando International Airport it’s just a 40-minute drive, via FL-50 E and E Colonial Drive, to Orlando Wetlands Park. With 20 miles of roads and woodland trails the park is easily accessible and offers numerous walking, jogging and cycling opportunities. The open waters of the lake attract a number of fascinating birds including bald eagles, red shouldered hawks and limpkins. You may even see the odd raccoon or white-tailed deer.
Tampa
Drive for around an hour and a half, via I-4 W, to reach Tampa. With its own adventure park, the 335-acre, African themed Busch Gardens, and a host of cultural attractions, there’s a lot to do. For dining and nightlife head to the Ybor City area; this historic neighbourhood has strong Spanish and Cuban roots which has created a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Other attractions include The Florida Aquarium and Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo.
St Petersburg
Just under a two-hour drive from Orlando International Airport, via I-4 W, is St Petersburg, home of the world-renowned Salvador Dali museum as well as some award-winning beaches. The Downtown area is packed with shops, restaurants and bars while those in search of variety can head to Locale Market, a 20,000 square foot market place offering a huge assortment of artisanal foods and fresh produce.
